San Francisco Restaurants, Cafes That Got Perfect Scores in Their Health Inspections

What do Swan Oyster Depot, Lou’s Café and Golden Gate Bakery have in common? In addition to being San Francisco-based companies, they are among an elite group of restaurants that scored high in their recent health inspections.

Each year, we review the results of San Francisco restaurant health inspections. This time we decided to do things a little differently. We’ve rounded up 100 restaurants, cafes, dessert shops and more that scored 100% or were awarded the title of “Sign of Excellence” between August 1 and November 26, 2019.

In a few cases, some companies received both. These rock star companies include Bebebar, The Saratoga, and Hot Cookie, among others.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health awards the “Sign of Excellence” to companies that have received three consecutive scores of 90% or higher. Moreover, these companies did not commit any major violations during their inspections. Of the 100 companies cited, 92 obtained the status.

Editor’s note: The list focuses on restaurants and businesses that sell large meals and desserts, but does not include cafes, food stalls or catering operations. Some companies with a score of 100 or awarded the “symbol of excellence” may not be included in the list due to the high volume of companies mentioned on the Ministry of Public Health website.
