San Francisco’s 38 Must-Try Restaurants, April 2013

It’s time to update the Eater 38, your answer and ours to any question starting with “Can you recommend a restaurant?” This highly elite group spans the entire city, covers a myriad of cuisines, and collectively satisfies all of your dining needs. Every few months, we add relevant restaurants that have been missed, are newly eligible (restaurants must have been open for at least six months), or have stepped up their game. And keep in mind that this list is presented in no particular order.

As always, this means that we have to give up some good addresses, and we continue to hold a place in our hearts for Léopold and Bix. Their spaces are filled with beloved vegetarians Green vegetables and ice cream masters Humphry Slocombe. And with the departure of pioneering bar manager Daniel Hyatt from the Alembic, we’re adding another kind of drinking venue, third-wave coffee leaders. four barrels/The mill. Rather than having a phase four meltdown after excluding your favorite restaurant from the list, wouldn’t it be more productive to just propose it for inclusion?
