San Francisco’s best restaurants for solo dining, according to Reddit

Eating alone in town may seem like a daunting task in the face of popular family restaurants, but there are a number of restaurants where one can enjoy a pleasant and relaxing meal even without company.

What was once considered something to do only out of necessity has become an online community of diners who have understood the joy of dining alone – and sharing those recommendations with each other.

Suggested restaurants ranged from hole-in-the-wall to more sophisticated fare, but all fall under the social contract of knowing that dining alone is a fine pastime. San Francisco classics with plenty of bar seating such as Grill Taditch has been recommended, as well as the favorite of all counters and all seafood Swan Oyster Deposit.

Other restaurants offered a dining experience that transcended who you dine with or not. The counter experience at Wako has been suggested, while one can watch the pasta being shaped behind the counter at Barzotto.

One suggestion was to attend court in a pub, where socializing is available (but optional) if desired. The Tandy Napper has been mentioned in this range, but many of the city’s pub options would be a suitable substitute.
