Downed power lines involved in fatal crash in southwestern Minnesota

Worthington, MN (KROC AM News) – Downed power lines on a section of I-90 in southwestern Minnesota during a storm on Wednesday played a role in a fatal traffic accident.

State Patrol says it happened in the eastbound lanes of the freeway around 6:00 p.m. near Worthington.

A car had stopped to avoid hitting power lines when it was hit by a tractor-trailer.

The driver of the car has been identified as Diego Campos, 37, from Chile. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger identified as Martha Rodriguez, 30, of Mexico City, died at the scene. There were two other passengers in the car. One has been identified as Bradford Barrett, 42, of Annapolis, Maryland. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The other – Aldo Viscarra-Avilez, 33, also from Chile – suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The truck was driven by Jaskaran Singh, 26, from Ottawa, Canada. He was not injured.

The driver of a third vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries he sustained from hitting the wires. He has been identified as Tyler Gilbery, 23, of Tea, South Dakota.
