San Franciscans love their hometown food, so it’s no surprise that a Reddit thread about the city’s best cheap eats generates a stream of thoughtful comments.
An out-of-town Reddit user recently posted the question, “Spending a week in San Francisco, we love the food but we’re not rich. What should you eat at the recommended restaurants?”
The discussion grew to over 100 comments and the result is a great list of affordable restaurants in town for locals and visitors alike.

You’ll find plenty of the usual suspects, such as the beloved Burmese restaurant Burma Superstar, and a few places you may never have heard of, such as Old Islamic Mandarin which, according to one user, “has Chinese cuisine from really interesting Islamic inspiration”. with lots of cumin and lamb.”

The list also features a variety of restaurant types, from the swankiest French bistro Le P’tit Laurent with a $31 prix-fixe menu, to Saigon’s holey sandwiches serving fresh Vietnamese bahn mi.
